Recipe For Chaos

Real Stories From The Chaotic Front

Only 363 days til next Christmas!

xmas93Another Christmas Day is  behind us. All the build up and excitement, all of the expense and stress becoming a distant memory. I for one was glad to return to a full day of work and leave my little ones behind for a few hours.

Highlights, this year were plentiful, Shopping wasn’t so bad. With so little money it was easy to make a list of the things that the boys really, really wanted. I asked them if they wanted a few good gifts for themselves or one really good gift for the family and one gift for themselves. There was no question. One thing for the family. (Wii wins) They really are great kids! I thought that plan would go over well until Christmas morning but nope..They were great then too. My family came through and bought the boys some things that they are really having a lot of fun with. This year Gavin woke me up at 9am and said. I’ve been up for hours can we wake the boys up now…(That never happened before~I’m sure it’s because he wanted me to make the coffee.) Only a few things were broken or lost on Christmas Day (inevitable with so many boys stomping around.) The turkey was delicious and plentiful. We spent the day with family stopping by at different intervals and fell asleep exhausted after watching movies together as a family. All in all it was a really great day!

Favorite quotes~Hmmm…

On Christmas Eve instead of my reading stories the boys decided to tell their own. Ian’s generally included a beautiful princess named Paula and always ended with Amen instead of The End…awwww…

Hayden asking if I needed to borrow some money from his Penny Bank to pay some bills if I came up short from buying stuff. (If he only knew)

When I asked Caleb what his favorite part of Christmas was, he responded…Just Wii and You Momma…Just Wii and You!

Christmas Proclimations

stockingsMy step son Robert had never had an artificial Christmas tree until we moved in. When his sister Shannon was taking the  (oh at least a dozen) pieces out of the box  Robert exclaimed “Oh No! It’s broken.”

Gavin (while wearing a full Sonic the Hedgehog costume) on Santa’s knee, loudly proclaimed to all the other Wal-Mart shoppers.. You’re a fake! I can see your zippers!

Hayden, while helping to decorate the tree, was looking for the new packet of ornament hooks and asked “Where are all the hookers?  “Why can’t I find a hooker?” Why is it you can never find a Christmas Hooker when you need one?”  I couldn’t resist replying with…”Your dad always asked the same thing honey”. thus inducing my mother to have a coughing fit…(He thankfully may never understand that part.)

Gavin after unwrapping gifts stood on his brand new Sega Saturn game. I said “Don’t stand on that! It was expensive!” His response So, you didn’t buy it! Santa did!” The next year Santa only brought him a round disc sled. Momma gave all the other gifts.

When asking Gavin what good little boys get for Christmas- TOYS! Then what do bad little boys get?- Clothes!

Caleb scolding Ian about being naughty and threatening only coal in his stocking…”Shut up Caleb, You know how much I love coal!”

When coming home after a long day at work and hearing, “Look mom, we fixed the tree!” (all the ornaments were hung in one huge lump in the center of the tree.)

Over heard while doing the dishes. TIMBER! followed immediately by RUN!!!!

Christmas Cheer…??? More Like Christmas AAAACK!!!

santa1

OK. How is it Christmas creeps up on us so fast every year???  I swear, as soon as the pressure for getting the kids geared up for school passes, Christmas rears it’s ugly head… I don’t want to have this attitude but…Here it is…I’ve been thinking about the whole..Telling the kids about Santa thing… I don’t want them to have unrealistic ideas about what he will be able to put under the tree (which I don’t have yet btw) this year… But, alas, it seems…Santa is my best behavior threat right now and I’m leery about loosing that edge… That, coupled with the fact that my kids can never keep a secret. I can see it now..me facing down the wrath of 300 parents on the playground after my kids broadcast their new found facts to their classmates…(shiver) OK, OK…Santa lives another year!!! I’ve gotten catalogues in the mail and from the stores… 3 copies of each of them…(can’t share), and asked each child to put their name on ONLY the items that are MOST important to them… Can you see where this is going???? YEP, I’d be more likely to run out of ink with all the name writing…. But at least I’m seeing themes developing.. Ian wants Lego’s and electronics..games and MP3 (which he calls a music listening thing with things that go in your ears..) too cute. Hayden wants family board games and pro-wrestling stuff, and Caleb wants exercise equipment and spy gear… I think I can do this..I think that I can make them happy.. The big kids…well, I’m sure they just want cash or gift cards..

OK…deep breath…plan in place…figure out which bills HAVE to be paid and who’s phone calls I need to evade and I’m set… Wish me luck!
